Whittard Connecting People Programme
Many thanks to Whittard for partnering with TOE2 to support the Earth Trust’s Connecting People Naturally Programme. Together we believe that everyone should be able to access local green spaces.
Funds from the Whittard 5p plastic bag charge are being used to provide fun outdoor play sessions at local sites across Oxfordshire so that local families can rediscover the excitement and wonder of the natural world.
The programme involves:
• Increasing awareness of local green spaces – working with local communities to make people more aware of where local green spaces are and how they might be used
• Inspiring ideas – Providing “Come out and Play” sessions where families get involved in fun outdoor activities they can replicate in local green spaces and at home.
• Training – To give local volunteers ideas and confidence in running activities on local sites
• Risky Play Lending library – promote use of the Earth Trust’s new lending library of resource kits, which includes tools, fruit-pressing equipment, bug hunting kits and items for fire lighting activities.
Brakspear Pub Trails
TOE2 is working in partnership with Brakspear to identify circular walks from up to 30 Brakspear pubs in Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties. Each route will be about 3 miles long, with up to two additional longer routes per pub. The walk guides will be written up in leaflet form, with narrative, notes and maps to aid the walker. Once complete the walk leaflets will be available in the pubs and on the Brakspear website.
Brakspear will provide funding to support access improvements along the routes where necessary, and for other rights of way in the area. This partnership programme will encourage greater use of local rights of way and improve access to Oxfordshire’s beautiful countryside and green spaces. What better way to reward yourself after a good walk than a well-earned drink and a bite to eat!
