Biological diversity is the variety of life and its processes; it includes the variety of living organisms, the genetic differences among them and the communities and ecosystems in which they occur.

Examples of the types of projects that TOE2 might support are those that:

  • Increase awareness about Oxfordshire’s natural environment and its priority habitats and species, and the significant role that communities and individuals can play in promoting real and lasting change
  • Aim to maintain and increase biodiversity through surveys, habitat and species management and habitat creation, resulting in direct improvements to Oxfordshire’s natural environment
  • Expand the biodiversity resource within the 36 Conservation target areas (CTAs) and/or Biodiversity Opportunity Areas, with an emphasis on targetting priority species and habitats identified in the Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP).
  • Improve the character of the landscape and the overall biodiversity of the wider countryside; such projects should refer to the Oxfordhshire Wildlife and Landscape Study (OWLS) which identifies local landscape and habitat types.
  • Provide opportunities for enjoyment of wild places and education about natural habitats thus increasing environmental understanding and appreciation
