Access to green spaces and the countryside
Walking and cycling are free and fun, as well as being good for mind, body and spirit. We believe that everyone should be able to access local green spaces for recreation and enjoyment.
Oxfordshire's public rights of way network of 2,600 miles is the main way that people get access to nature. Access improvements can make a huge difference for relatively low cost and these projects are always good news for both recipient and donor.
Oxfordshire County Council's Countryside access team is always happy to offer support and advice to local communities wishing to make their area easier and safer to explore on foot, by bicycle and on horseback.
What sorts of access projects will TOE2 support?
TOE2 will support projects that fit within Oxfordshire County Council’s Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP) and which improve the accessibility and quality of the rights of way network by:
1. Creating new links
2. Replacing stiles with gates
3. Improving path surfaces
4. Improving signs and route-marking
5. Promoting the wider use of the countryside and green spaces
